Language Arts

Reading Traits and Processes 
The student will: 
    • understand concepts of print.
    • use clues to establish meaning. 
    • use basic elements of word analysis to decode unknown words. 
    • understand level-appropriate sight words and vocabulary.
    • use self-correction strategies. 
    • read aloud familiar stories, poems, and passages with fluency and expression. 

    Reading Comprehension 
    The student will: 
      • know the characteristics of a variety of literary forms and genre.
      • know setting, main characters, main events, sequence, problems, and themes in stories. 
      • make simple inferences regarding the order of events and possible outcomes. 
      • know the main ideas or themes in literature. 
      • understand a variety of informational text. 
      • understand the main idea and supporting details of informational text. 
      • retell information found in text. 

      Writing
       
      The student will: 
        • use pre-writing to plan written work. 
        • use strategies to draft and revise written work. 
        • use strategies to edit and publish written work. 
        • evaluate his/her own and other's writing. 
        • use writing and other methods to describe familiar persons, places, objects, or experiences. 
        • write a variety of forms or genres. 

        Speaking
         
        The student will: 
          • make contributions in class and group discussions. 
          • ask and respond to questions. 
          • follow the rules of conversation. 
          • use different voice levels, phrasing, and intonation. 
          • use level-appropriate vocabulary in speech.
          • give and respond to oral directions. 
          • listen and respond to a variety of media. 
          • demonstrate social skills of audience behavior. 



          Math

          Numbers and Operations 
          The student will: 
            • read and write numbers to 100 (in and out of sequence). 
            • write sums to 10 (horizontally and vertically) in a timed setting. 
            • write differences subtracting from 10 or less (horizontally and vertically) in a timed setting. 

              Algebra and Problem Solving 
              The student will: 
                • use comparison vocabulary such as "greater than," "less than," and "equal to." 
                • problem-solve using grade level appropriate computation skills and processes. 

                  Geometry and Measurement
                   
                  The student will: 
                    • analyze, classify, and describe geometric shapes. 
                    • understand measurable attributes of objects. 
                    • identify and know the value of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. 


                      Science

                      Unifying Concepts and Processes 
                      The student will: 
                        • develop an understanding of systems, order, and organization. 
                        • develop an understanding of change, constancy, and measurement. 
                        • develop an understanding of form and function.

                        Physical Science 
                        The student will: 
                          • develop an understanding of the characteristics of materials. 

                          Life Science 
                          The student will: 
                            • develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things. 
                            • develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms.

                            Earth and Space Science 
                            The student will: 
                            • develop an understanding of the characteristics of earth materials. 
                            • develop an understanding of the objects in the sky. 
                            • develop an understanding of the changes in the earth and sky. 

                            Science in Personal and Social Perspectives 
                            The student will: 
                            • develop an understanding of personal health. 
                            • develop an understanding of resources. 


                            Social Studies

                            Individual Development and Identity 
                            The student will: 
                            • understand that one's personal identity is shaped by one's culture, groups, and institutional influences. 
                            • identify their personal interests and abilities. 
                            • understand why rules are necessary. 

                            Production, Distribution, and Consumption 
                            The student will: 
                            • understand the role of policies and technology in all three phases of production, distribution, and consumption. 
                            • understand how money is used daily for the purchase of goods and services. 
                            • identify how families use their money. 

                            Science, Technology, and Society 
                            The student will: 
                            • understand how the evolution of science and technology has and will continue to influence society. 


                            Health

                            Health Information
                            The student will: 
                            • demonstrate the ability to identify and access accurate health information and health promoting practices, products, and services. 
                            • identify sources of accurate health information and health-promoting products and services. 
                            • demonstrate the ability to locate resources from home, school, and/or community that provide accurate health information.

                            Communication
                             
                            The student will: 
                              • demonstrate the ability to use communication skills to promote healthy lifestyles.

                              Community Health
                               
                              The student will: 
                                • demonstrate the ability to influence and support others in making positive health choices.
