Expectations for students and parents

For your child to be successful, he / she needs:

  • A place to do homework – an ideal location would be somewhere quiet and uncluttered.  It is a good idea for your child to complete his / her homework in the same place each time.

  • A routine for completing the homework – your child will be receiving homework at the same time each week, so you are able to plan accordingly.

*Homework will be assigned each Thursday
     - found in the Mail folder under “Return to school”

*Homework will usually include a reading and math sheet.

*All homework is due by Tuesday of the following week.  Feel free to send it back earlier.  If your child does not return the homework on Tuesday, they will be kept in from recess to complete the homework.  If homework is not being returned regularly, other arrangements will be made before or after school for your child to complete the work.

  • Provide encouragement and motivation – your child needs practice completing the assignments independently to apply what he / she has learned in class. If your child has difficulty completing the work independently or is struggling with a concept, please contact me as soon as possible.  Please check over your child’s work before it is returned to school.

  • Time expectations – on average, a child should be doing homework for approximately ten minutes times his / her grade level, so your child should not be working on these assignments for more than ten minutes at a time.  Please contact me if your child is consistently working for more than this amount of time on one assignment.

  • Your child should be reading every night (at least ten minutes). Other homework may include flashcards and spelling words.  Spelling tests occur on Fridays
